Charges of manslaughter have been laid in the death of a child on a First Nation southeast of Brantford.
Investigators with provincial police and the Six Nations Police Service arrested a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman on Thursday.
Six Nations officers were called to a home on Six Nations of the Grand River Territory back on the evening of March 6 for a medical complaint, when they found 3-year-old Torrence Vanevery unresponsive inside.
The little boy was taken to a Brantford area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Constable Ed Sanchuk with OPP says police have been investigating ever since, and have now charged Madeline Lee Froman and John Paul Smoke Jr., both of Six Nations, with manslaughter.
“Officers that conducted the investigation followed the evidence that took it to where it led them, and as a result of that information, they lay that charge,” says Sanchuk.
Each has also been charged with firearm and drug-related offences.
Sanchuk didn’t provided details on the relationship between the two accused and the victim, nor Vanevery’s exact cause of death.
