Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Waterloo Region

It was a wet and stormy Friday evening, as Environment Canada issued multiple alerts for thunderstorms– and even tornadoes.

Around 6:30 p.m., Environment Canada warned of severe thunderstorms, and confirmed a tornado was spotted in Hawkesville heading towards Elmira and St. Jacobs around 8:30 p.m.

Later in the evening, the national weather authority pulled the tornado warning — but a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Waterloo Region and our surrounding areas.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the evening, and we could see torrential rainfall, strong winds, and large hail.
