K-W Humane Society has tips for cat safety, after two cats dismembered

The KW Humane Society has some thoughts on how to protect your small pets as Regional Police investigate the dismemberment of two cats.

Director of Operations, Cathy Innocente tells 570 News that case, announced this morning, is unique.

“I’ve been doing this for 26 years, so there is a lot of disturbing cases I come in contact with, but, it is definatly one of the disturbing ones,
it just shows that it happens out there, and again keeping your cat safe and by your side is the only way you are going to prevent something like this,”

Innocente says “by your side” means taking your cat outside on a leash, which they can be trained to do.

Otherwise, she suggests making your cat an indoor-only cat.

She says regardless of abuse, indoor cats usually have about one-and-a-half-times the life expectancy of outdoor cats.
