Threat for heavy rain continues through Friday

Another day of downpours is on tap Thursday, according to meteorologists with Canada’s national weather agency.
Don’t expect to put the umbrella away anytime soon, as the threat for heavy rain will continue through the end of this week.
Warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada Peter Kimbell says conditions will be favourable to produce strong scattered showers and thunderstorms yet again on Friday, as a cold front moves through the region. “I would expect normal to below normal temperatures for the following week or so, right through until next weekend — the weekend of the 12th,” Kimbell says. “Cooler air and showers [are] definitely possible.”
Most areas won’t see much rain, but others won’t be so lucky, with local amounts up to 10 mm and strong wind gusts forecast.
While it may seem like we’ve needed the rain boots more than the sandals this summer, Kimbell says precipitation amounts have stayed around average.
Average rainfall amounts in the Kitchener area for the months of June and July were around 80 mm — normal amounts are between the 80-90 mm range. Kimbell adds it doesn’t look like we can expect any less of it for the rest of the summer.
“I’m not convinced that August is going to be necessarily a drier month. Certainly July was not as wet as June and May were,” he says. “July was closer to normal and I think we would be expecting normal precipitation through August.”
