Police looking for man in connection with suspicious fires in Waterloo

Regional Police have just released surveillance video and photos of a man they want to talk to, as part of their investigation into eight suspicious fire in north Waterloo.

The fires have occurred around Waterloo’s Lakeshore Village, Lakeshore North, and Conservation Medows areas in the space of about a month.

Cherri Greeno with Regional Police tells 570 NEWS this is the first footage that puts anyone near the scene of one of the eight fires.

“We’re just looking to identify him, asking for the public’s assistance in helping us do that,” she says, “so we can find out any information he may have.”

Surveillance video near the Toll Gate and Glen Forrest area in Waterloo shows a man on a bike, in the early morning hours of July 30th. That same morning, a shed was set ablaze and burned to the ground, near an auto shop on Glen Forrest Boulevard, marking the seventh blaze.

The latest in the string of fires broke out early yesterday morning on Clearwater Crescent. Crews were able to put out that shed fire before it spread to a nearby home.

“The proximity of these fires, the fact that they’ve all occurred in and around the same area — north Waterloo. As well as the time that they have occured. They usually occur in the late evening, early morning hours,” Greeno says. “That leads us to link these fires and leads us to believe that they are suspicious in nature.”

The man police want to speak to is described as white with a thin to medium build.
