IBM bringing exclusive technology to Communitech

The IBM Innovation Incubator will give local tech companies access to some pretty big data, including some exclusive technology.
The announcement today at Communitech was made thanks to a $22.75 million dollar investment from the province.
Small and medium sized companies in Waterloo will now have access to everything from cloud based platforms like Bluemix to IBM’s very own Watson AI.
For companies like EMAGIN who rely on data for water systems optimization, the annoucement today means a kick start to their operation.
Jacob George, EMAGIN development lead explains.
“Oil is not the most important resource right now, data is, and that really speaks volumes for us and many other starts ups in the industry. We need data, and without it we can’t really run our solutions.”
Along with providing local companies with valuable resources, the project is also expected to provide the local economy with over 2500 jobs in the next five years.
The space at Communitech is now one of five IBM innovation hubs across the province.
