Jefferson Salamander gets a little help from the City of Kitchener

A street in the Doon South area of Kitchener is close to help out the Jefferson Salamander.

The city has closed Stauffer Drive between South Creek Drive and Caryndale Drive until early May to help the endangered salamander cross the road without the treat of traffic.

Jefferson salamanders are protected under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act due to a population decline.

Every March the city of Kitchener closes the section of roadway to help with migration of the Jefferson Salamander.
