Possible natural gas leak forces evacuation at U of G

Authorities in Guelph are still trying to pinpoint the cause of an odour that triggered a significant evacuation at the University of Guelph.

Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Guelph Fire Department responded to a call at the MacNaughton Building on Gordon Street after students reported what they thought smelled like natural gas.

A total of nine buildings were evacuated.

All of the buildings were inspected and some were ventilated before students and staff were allowed to return.

Union Gas and university personnel are investigating.

Multiple agencies responded to the call, including five Guelph Fire stations, Guelph Police, university staff, Union Gas and EMS personnel.
