The Cancer Support Centre launched the “Hope for Hope Spring” campaign, hoping people could provide some much needed funding.
The centre had announced in late January that it would be shutting down March 31 because of difficulties rounding up money.
Now they have until February 27 to meet a funding deadline.
“We’re looking for $400,000 for the immediate need,” says Chair of the Hope Spring board, Valerie Beyer. “That would enable us to be able to continue our operations for our fiscal year. We are currently at $60,000 as of this morning.”
Without this funding, over 1500 members that use the facility will have to find support programs elsewhere.
“If we got to that point where we were forced to close, we’d want to do it in a way that’s responsible and respectful,” says Beyer. “We would need enough time to help them find other services while we continue to support them because that’s our biggest concern, because we don’t want that break in the continuity of the programs and services.”
Donations are being accepted through their website, www.hopespring.ca.
