Could there be a Galt connection to a famous Toronto Cold Case?

A Toronto woman is hoping a Galt, Cambridge connection can lead to more information about what happened to her famous Great-Grandfather.

Ambrose Small was a theatre magnate who disappeared in Toronto back in 1919.  He went missing right after he closed a big real estate deal.

It was known as Canada’s oldest cold case.   Toronto police finally closed the file in the early 60’s.

Janneth Smith tells 570News she was packing up her mother’s belongings recently and came across some interesting things – including a train ticket to Galt,  and a locket with Ambrose Small’s picture inside it.

She thinks someone in Cambridge might have some new information on this almost century old mystery.

She has posted signs up around the downtown Galt area of Cambridge with hopes of getting some fresh leads to learn more about what happened to Small, and learn more about her own family tree.

Small was known to be quite the business dealer – described as a self-made millionaire.  The married man was also said to be popular with the ladies.

He was the owner of a number of theatres including  the Grand Opera Houses in Kingston and Toronto, and London’s Grand Theatre.

On the night of December 2,1919, Small disappeared – reports say he was last seen outside his Toronto office. His money in the bank was never touched.

Smith says she believes she is his great- granddaughter based on family information and the recently found artifacts.
