The City of Waterloo is trying to help us get into the Halloween spirit with their family friendly event — ‘Scare in the Square’.
Josh Bean is Festival and Event Specialist with the City and says they’ll have all kinds of great, interesting things happening in Waterloo Public Square.
“There’s lots of stuff for children of all ages, so from very young to older, we’ve got spooky stuff, interesting stuff and fun stuff! That includes a petting zoo with the Institute of Morphoid Research, some local politicians will be coming to read various Halloween books, we’ll have a balloon brawl– and tons of other things.”
Bean says the event runs Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We have 23 businesses on board for the Trick or Treating on Saturday. We’ll have handouts that people can take around with them so they’ll have a list of what stores are participating, and also those stores will have signs in their windows to help people identify them.”
Bean adds that the event really is an inclusive event– not just for family and friends, but also pets!
“We’ve been working with our local Pet Valu store over on Bridgeport and they’re gonna have a ‘Pet Costume Parade’ that will be in the square on Saturday at 5 p.m.”
Bean says as construction in Uptown is nearing completion, this is the perfect opportunity to come down and check out the progress.
“Public space is an important part of community. It’s a great way to get to know the city and the community. During Halloween, it’s the perfect way for kids to get introduced to the festivities and participate in something family-friendly.”
Bean adds that if the weather doesn’t cooperate, the rain location will be the Button Factory.
