Everything Blue Jays flying off the shelves

It appears Waterloo Region not only loves the Blue Jays, but we love to show off our love for Canada’s team.

“Everybody is really excited about all the postseason gear,” says Rob Cowie, general manager at National Sports in Waterloo. “It’s really remeniscent from 92, 93 when they won back-to-back world series. The feeling is still the same, the vibe is still the same, customers when they come into our store are very excited, so it’s a fun place to be right now.”

Cowie says they’ve even seen lineups outside their doors as early as 6 a.m.

“We had a lineup at the store when the store first opened up,” says Cowie. “People were ready to buy their gear, and people want to get it on their head and on their body as soon as possible.”

Cowie says most come in for “the lockerroom t-shirts, the lockerroom hats they’re wearing, the hoodies they are wearing in the dougout.” He says most people “want to be part of the movement.”

Demand is so high at the sports store, they have to get new Jays equipment in every day to keep up with the demand.

“We have to get it everyday to keep on top of things,” says Cowie. “We’re the leader, outside the Toronto Blue Jays at the stadium, in Ontario of getting product in the stores.”

“Anything with a Blue Jays logo on it, especially the postseason, is flying off shelves right now.”

He says to make the shopping experience a little more enjoyable for local fans, they air every game.

“When the games are on we put on 570 News so that people can listen to them,” says Cowie. “It creates a really good vibe in the store.”

Friday’s game is on 570 News. The pre-game show starts at 7pm.
