Stolen vehicle involved in crash at Trussler and Huron

Three people face a total of 16 charges after a major crash at Trussler Road and Huron Road involving a stolen vehicle.

Sgt Steven Schmelzle tells 570 News police made several arrests after the stolen U-Haul blew through a stop sign just after 2 p.m. in Wilmot Township.

“Three people that were inside of that vehicle fled, we did a canine track in the area and were able to apprehend all three of them.”

He says there were no major injuries, because the driver of the vehicle that was hit was wearing his seat belt.

The canine unit found a man and two women hiding in a nearby corn field.

The driver of the stolen U-Haul was charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Drive While Disqualified and Failing to Stop at the scene of an accident.

Trussler at Huron re-opened around 5:30 p.m.
