Cambridge Multiplex Task Force to provide update Thursday

The Cambridge Multiplex Task Force meets Thursday night.

But, 570 News has learned they will not be releasing a list of possible locations.

Chris Smith is the site location task force chair, he believes they will have a recommendation for council ready by the October 27 task force meeting, and will deliver that report sometime in early November.

Smith believes the final report will include two or three locations for council to evaluate.

The task force was put together back in May after heavy opposition to the proposed Conestoga College site.

The group was assigned to relook at all other possible sites for the sport facility and make a recommendation to Cambridge City Council.

Now after months of public consultations, they are ready to go over what they heard from Cambridge residents.

Ward 8 Councillor Nicholas Ermeta was the most vocal councillor against the Conestoga site. Ermeta is not on the task force, but has seen the report.

He says the feedback reassures what he has been hearing for months, “It seems to be very consistent with what I have been hearing all along, the public would like us to find a better alternative than the Conestoga site.” said Ermeta.

Ermeta says from what he has read, the most popular location is in the Hespeler Road and Franklin Boulevard area.

On the other side of the issue, Ward 7 Councillor Frank Monteiro still strongly supports the Conestoga College location.

Monteiro says he is open to look at whatever locations the task force recommends but is concerned about the budget, “It’s a question of affordability, because if we cannot afford it, it may not be built.”

The meeting is in Council Chambers at Cambridge City Hall and starts at 5:30pm.

The task force’s final recommendation is expected in November.
