Crews investigate electrical fire in Waterloo

An electrical fire on University Avenue in Waterloo has some students in the dark.
Ken Lumgair Platoon Chief with Waterloo Fire Rescue tells 570 News that damage was done to the building on 38 University Avenue East, near Regina Street.
Lumgair says they believe there was an issue with a hydro pole in the area and crews are on scene now making repairs.
He doesn’t expect students to be displaced since the fire was contained to the basement of the building.
Power could be out though for most of the day, depending on how long the repairs take.
Waterloo North Hydro tells 570 News that around 25 customers are without power.
No damage estimate has been released at this time.
