Heavy rain hits Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region and much of southern Ontario was treated to Mother Nature’s wrath as severe thunderstorms passed through our area.

We were under a severe thunderstorm watch most of the afternoon, severe thunderstorm warning was issued later in the evening, and at one point, we were also under a tornado warning.

The tornado warning was issued around 7 p.m. for just over a half hour, along with strong winds we also saw some flash flooding throughout the region.

Some sporadic power outages were also reported.

Environment Canada received calls from people who reported tornadoes touching in the Oshawa, Brampton, and Beaverton areas but the agency said it would be a couple of days before it would be able to confirm those reports.

The storms also drenched some areas with up to 50 millimetres of rain.
