July 2016 was a warm one

It’s expected to be another hot day in Waterloo Region and much of southern Ontario as we remain under a heat warning.

The high is expected to climb into the low thirties with humidex values approaching 40.

It’s very much part of a trend we’ve seen most of the summer.

The University of Waterloo Weather Station says the average temperature last month was about one-and-a-half degrees warmer than during a typical July.

So far this year, we’ve experienced 22 days with a high above 30 degrees, whereas in a normal year we would only see temperatures that warm 8 times.

The average daytime high last month, not surprisingly, also above normal at over 28 degrees.

Rainfall totals were also down last month to just over 70 millimetres, with the bulk of that falling in the final week of July.

The long term average for July is just under 100 millimetres.
