IKEA store now open in Kitchener

Waterloo Region just got a little more Swedish! Furniture giant IKEA officially opened their pick-up and order location in Kitchener.

The new store is located at 130 Gateway Drive in Kitchener, beside The Home Depot.

The store is designed smaller than the traditionally large IKEA stores, like the one in Burlington.

IKEA Canada President Stefan Sjöstrand was on hand for the opening and said these stores are all about customer convenience.

“The customer can either shop online and get the goods delivered to the pickup and order point or they can come here into this huge area and browse our products and talk to one of our really skilled co-workers,” said Sjostrand.

IKEA’s ‘pick up and order’ stores are a global pilot project. The Kitchener store is the sixth in Canada and is also the largest globally.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic was also at the ribbon cutting and says the opening is proof that Waterloo Region can draw major retailers.

“Having a world class retailer like IKEA come to the community really emphasizes the fact that our community is innovative and vibrant, and it is a place that retailers want to be.” said Vrbanovic.

It’s located at 130 Gateway Park Drive.

The store has over 40 employees. It’s also IKEA’s largest pick-up and order location in Canada.
