Fischer-Hallman Road was closed between Plains and Huron roads in Kitchener late Friday morning after a serious crash that saw one person struck by a vehicle.
Police said there was an initial crash in the area and one driver exited their car. The 65-year-old man was then struck by a passing vehicle and transported to an out-of-region hospital. His injuries are described as being serious but non-life-threatening.
The driver of the passing vehicle, an 18-year-old female from Kitchener, was not injured. Police continue to investigate the collision and say charges are anticipated, and note there were whiteout conditions in the area at the time of the incident.
While traffic investigators cleared the scene, police said Fischer-Hallman Road would remain closed for the afternoon commute due to poor weather conditions.
A few hours after the Kitchener crash, police reported an eight-vehicle collision in Wilmot on Nafziger Road, which led to a closure between Wilby Road and Erbs Road.
Police said two individuals were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, and it was determined that whiteout conditions were a contributing factor in the collision. Nafziger Road reopened the area around 4 p.m.
As of 12:30 p.m. Friday, WRPS had received 70 reports of collisions in a 24-hour span.
