First year students applying to Laurier up over 11%

The number of high school students applying to university in Ontario is up. The number of students applying to Wilfrid Laurier University is way up.

Across the province, the number of students applying for full time studies is up 1.5 per cent over last year.

Jennifer Casey is Laurier’s Assistant VP of Enrolment Services and Registrar. She tells 570 News that the number of those applying to Laurier rose 11.3 per cent over last year.

“The number of students that said first choice was up 25 per cent over last year and that’s put us first in the province.”

Casey goes on to say that they spend a lot of time in their outreach efforts to determine what students need as well as helping prospective students and their families understand what is unique about the university.

“We know that students are choosing us for academic excellence,” says Casey, who also notes that and they are very responsive to student need.

In the past year alone, a number of programs were added to each of their campuses. Including a partnership with the University of Sussex in the U.K.
