Local company keeping you focused at work with gaming

Sometimes, it’s hard to stay focused at work.

One local company is teaming up with the University of Waterloo in hopes of changing that…with gaming.

It’s all centered on gamification in the work place, and how using the principles of gaming could help keep employees engaged.

ODScore is a Guelph-based consulting firm, and they’re working with the Games Institute at the University of Waterloo and Mitacs, a national, not-for-profit research and training organization.

CEO of ODScore Christy Pettit says this research will help businesses reach their goals, and stay focused in the work place.

“We believe the use of gamification as a motivation tool has the potential to inspire and empower employees within corporate structures in a way that enhances both their career and personal goals….We are excited to work directly with the University of Waterloo’s Games Institute on this leading-edge study, and to leverage Mitacs funding to find innovative ways to implement this research in an effective way for our clients.”

Some of the questions they’ll be looking into include: What happens when we get stuck? What happens when our motivation runs out? And how can we use gaming principles to get ourselves back on track?
