Sen. Patrick Brazeau has been found seriously injured in his home in Mayo, Que., Quebec police confirm.

Emergency crews found him around 10:15 p.m. on Monday.

The 41-year-old was hospitalized and underwent surgery. No details about his injuries were released but he is in critical but stable condition.

Police have said they don’t believe any criminal activity was involved.

The embattled senator has recently been given an absolute discharge and avoided jail time after pleading guilty to an assault charge.

He is awaiting trial on his Senate expenses and has been having his salary clawed back to pay back nearly $50,000 in claims.
