Officials investigating fire at bar in Guelph

The investigation continues into the fire at a bar in Guelph.

The blaze shut down Wyndham and Douglas streets at St. George’s Square as firefighters from five stations were called to the scene.

According to Guelph Fire, there were no injuries to residents or emergency responders. Most residents were not home at the time of the fire. Victim Services and Red Cross were on scene to help the displaced residents.

The city’s Chief Administrative Officer, Ann Pappert, says crews have been monitoring the building through the night.

Nearby businesses were closed for the evening and pedestrians were not allowed to pass in front of the building. By late evening, Wyndham St. and Douglas St. were reopened and only the sidewalk in front of 91 Wyndham St. remained closed.

The cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation.
