Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro is moving to monthly billing.
Over 85,000 customers will receive their last bimonthly bill as of October 2nd.
“Smart meters are the reason,” says Wilf Meston the Vice President of Customer Service for Kitchener Wilmot Hydro
“Now that we have smart meters we’re getting that information daily and have the information to write up the bill.”
Meston says the benefits to the customer include smaller bills, a more manageable payment schedule and more timely energy consumption information if the customer is seeing it more frequently. Customers can go to the Hydro website to check their home’s daily consumption.
The hydro company always issued bimonthly billing as it took a number of work hours to go home to home and read the meters manually. Given the thousands of customers they have the company could not deliver a monthly bill.
“Electricity is a product you pay for after you use it” says Meston. We settled on bimonthly to allow staff to read the meters.
The bill issued October 2nd will be the last bimonthly bill. Then customers will receive another bill about 20 or 40 days after that, putting them on the monthly schedule.
