Chicopee recognized for their water re-use project

Chicopee Tube Park was presented the Region’s Water Efficiency Excellence Award in recognition of their recent large water re-use project.
The Region of Waterloo awarded Chicopee the honour yesterday for using strong environmental principles to guide their business practices.
Waterloo’s Manager of Water Efficiency Steve Gombos told 570 news that Chicopee created a water retention pond at the bottom of their water-tube park so that it can be re-used to create snow in the winter.
“So what they’ve done is reduced their annual drinking water usage by about 14 million litres a year, that’s about a 60% drinking water reduction at the site.”
Gombos says the amount of water saved from this initiative is enough to supply about 70 homes for a year.
The Water Efficiency Excellence Award has been presented to businesses around the Region for the last seven years. Past winners include Kraus Flooring, Marsland and Toyota.
