August 2015 will go down as one of the most successful months in Toronto Blue Jays history.
The funny part? August isn’t even over yet. The Blue Jays will have one more opportunity later today to add to their already impressive month of August.
It has truly been an August for the ages in regards to the Toronto Blue Jays; they’ve won 21 of 25 games this month, they’ve had the most successful 25-game span in franchise history, and the Blue Jays have a chance to win their 22nd game of the month, which would tie a club record for most wins in a single month.
The Blue Jays’ dismembering of the Detroit Tigers was just the latest example of Toronto’s sheer power as they overpowered yet another American League East opponent. In the case of the Detroit Tigers, you almost feel bad for the team because they virtually had no chance the entire weekend.
In the month of August, the Blue Jays have outscored their opponents by nearly a 2:1 ratio, scoring 168 runs while only surrendering 73 in total. As a team, the Blue Jays are hitting .272 and have slugged 49 home runs in the month of August alone.
Then in the pitching department, the Blue Jays’ pitching staff has been one of the most effective in all of baseball this month as well; owning a 2.82 staff ERA which is third best in all of baseball.
It’s almost gotten to the point where we’re running out of positive things to say about the Toronto Blue Jays. Game after game, they’re simply out-muscling, out-pitching and out-playing the competition in every facet of the game.
Since the All-Star break, the Blue Jays haven’t let up and they’re showing no signs of stopping. Toronto is 29-10 since mid-July, and they’re playing their best baseball of the season at the absolute best time.
Not only are they about to embark on some meaningful games in September, but they’ve set themselves up to play some all-important games in October as well.
The Blue Jays gained so much momentum and distanced themselves so far in front of the pack that they can practically coast into a playoff spot. If the Blue Jays merely play .500 baseball the rest of the season, they’ll finish with a 90-72 record.
Although they’ve been on a torrent pace in the month of August, September is hardly the time for a team like the Blue Jays to let off the gas. They should absolutely be proud of their accomplishments this month, but there are still 32 games left to play over the span of the next five weeks.
A playoff spot for the Blue Jays would be great, but another American League East division title would be better. And with the bulk of their games against AL East rivals, the Blue Jays can easily seal their own fate within the next few weeks.
Yes, it was an August for the ages for the Blue Jays. But as the calendar gets set to turn, let’s hope it’s a September to remember.
