Local farmer calls growing season decent

By

How do the farmers like the summer weather we’ve been having?
James Herrle with Herrle’s Country Farm Marketsays it’s been a decent season for growing.

“We’re used to dealing with extremes. It seems there isn’t a perfectly normal year anymore. We’re always seeing a bit of hot period or dry period or cold and wet period. And this year has been no different than that.”

Herrle says it’s been a little warmer than last year which has led to crops being more advanced than the past summer growing season. That’s good for the corn and beans that like the hot and dry weather. But not so good for peas and spinach which like the cool and wet weather. All the crops, Herrle tells us, like the moisture.
