8 Waterloo Region Taxi drivers fired after working for Uber

At least 8 Waterloo Region Taxi drivers have been fired after it was discovered they were also working for ride sharing app Uber.

The region is currently working on a new taxi by-law that will address Uber operating in Waterloo Region.

Brian Mann with Waterloo Region Taxi Alliance tells 570 News, Uber not waiting for the by-law to pass before setting up shop is ‘how the company operates’.

The by-law will be presented to council tomorrow and if passed, implemented in January of next year.

Uber launched in Waterloo Region on July 23 without the region’s final stamp of approval.
