Sign at ION stop redesigned due to concerns it looked like swastika

A change in design for one of Waterloo Region’s Light Rail transit stops.

The stop in question is the Victoria Park one.

Following public consultations, regional council decided to be better safe than sorry.

Some were concerned the design looked like it contained a swastika.

Councillor Tom Galloway says that was the point of gathering public input.

He tells the Record, “You don’t want something tagged or referred to as something in a derogatory sense so this is the time to make changes.”

That’s not the only change to that stop.

Council also approved changing the material to be used so it is more in line with the heritage of the area.
