Hundreds across Canada will walk for a cure for ALS today.
The annual Walk for ALS starts in Waterloo Public Square and will take participants on a 5 kilometer walk to raise funds for ALS research and support.
Amanda Downey with ALS Canada tells 570News how the money goest to help those in our community living with the incurable disease.
“The ALS Society provides support through their home visits, support groups and education and they also provide a loan equipment program to these clients.”
Downey also explains why the Kitchener-Waterloo walk is so important to the community.
“The walk is a true testament to the strong community support we have in the region for the people who are currently suffering with the disease as well as for their families.”
Thirty two walks will be taking place across Ontario today.
Currently there are upwards of 3,000 people living with ALS in Canada.
