RECORDED WEBCAST: Andre Marin, Ontario’s ombudsman
Ontario’s ombudsman will release a report today on Hydro One’s billing practices and customer service. Andre Marin has been looking into the Crown Corporation for more than a year in response to thousands of customer complaints. The complaints have involved incorrect bills, large “estimated” bills and unexpectedly large payments withdrawn from customers’ bank accounts. Hydro One has promised to work with Marin to resolve the issue.

Ontario’s education minister says the province will be taking steps today to force striking high school teachers back to work. Liz Sandals says a branch of the Ontario Labour Relations Board has ruled that strikes by teachers in the Sudbury-area and Peel and Durham Regions are putting the school year in jeopardy for more than 70-thousand students. She says the province will be introducing back-to-work legislation this afternoon and that unanimous consent is needed from all parties to get it passed today. The move comes as the high school teachers’ union announced that central talks had reached an impasse and it would apply to the labour ministry for conciliation _ a necessary step before it can take provincewide strike action.
