10:00 AM – School board – local update
Kathleen Woodcock, Chairperson, Waterloo Region District School Board
High school teachers with the Waterloo Region District School Board could walk off the job as early as May 4th….but it’s not clear when or if they’ll go on strike. There are 16 secondary schools in the Board, with approximately 1600 staff and 20,000 students. School board chair, Kathleen Woodcock says that while a “no board” report has been issued, they have not yet received it. That report puts in motion the countdown to labour action. She says negotiations are ongoing and that the board wants to reach a settlement with the union and joins us now.
10:30 AM – Traffic Tickets
Brian Lawrie, Founder and President, POINTTS

While the current process allows you to fight a traffic ticket in court – the potential Administrative Monetary Penalty System would, if implemented, replace formal in-court procedures for resolving disputes, with an online system. The Government website goes on to say…that an online application could provide a faster and more convenient process for paying tickets and resolving disputes – however, critics say this could rob us of a right to a fair trial.
