Increased GO Service for KW expected in 3 years

The province is increasing the number of GO train trips system wide from 1,500 to 6,000 this year, but only a few of those trains will impact residents in Waterloo Region.
This morning, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced plans to increase Go Train commuter service to Barrie and Aurora and to quadruple the number of trips across the entire network over the next 10 years.
Express trains to Brampton and trains departing every 30 minutes in a “peak direction” during “peak periods” on weekdays will come to the Region. That will mean 24 weekday and 28 weekend trips to the Kitchener corridor at “off peak” non rush-hour times by 2018.
Officials say GO Region Express Rail service on the Kitchener line represents express, non-stop service, originating in Kitchener, and moving to Bramalea and Union Station.
Currently, there are 80 weekly trips on the Kitchener line and over the next five years, that number is expected to grow to more than 250.
The Liberal Government has increased transit funding from $29-billion to $31.5-million over the next decade, because of yesterday’s announcement of the partial sale of Hydro One.
In the 2014 Provincial election, the Wynne government promised trains running every 15 minutes in each direction on all seven GO train lines, by 2024.
