12:00 – Youth Voting
Brigette DePape, former Senate page & member, 2015 Game-Changers Tour
It made national headlines – and she doesn’t regret it at all. Former Senate page Brigette DePape joins us now…she infamously held up a ‘Stop Harper’ sign during the 2011 Throne Speech. She was quickly removed by security and lost her job. Now, three years later, she is on a mission as part of the 2015 Game-Changers Tour. The goal is to get youth better engaged in politics – and to vote – in the next federal election. She says it’s time to break the cycle of youth feeling like politicians aren’t listening to them – nearly two thirds of young people didn’t vote in the last election.
12:30 – Walk a Mile in her shoes
Megan Lambe, Director of Communications and Public Relations, YWCA Cambridge
12:45 – Doug Craig, Mayor, City of Cambridge
The award winning Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes is back! The 6th annual event goes this Saturday at 12:00 at the Cambridge City Hall. Rogers TV is once again a proud sponsor of the event – which offers a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious nature of inequality. Many walks in many cities raise awareness for violence against women: YWCA Cambridge’s focus is on building an equal and tolerant community. It’s simple: Cambridge men raise pledges and walk a few blocks in women’s shoes – which are provided. Tonight, Mayor Doug Craig and members of Cambridge City Council will serve tables at Boston Pizza while sporting red high heels. As part of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes campaign, 10 per cent of all food sales from the night will go to benefit YWCA Cambridge’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser.
