Kitchener unveils first-ever neighbourhood strategy

The City of Kitchener is putting out the welcome mat.
It proposes developing its first-ever neighbourhood strategy that is aimed at making people feel more welcome.
Among other things, the city is looking at possibly increasing public art, hosting more neighbourhood events and perhaps improving playgrounds and adding more community gardens.
Public input will weigh heavily in the process.
That process is already underway with staff having huddled with community stakeholders over the past year.
They’ve also been studying what other communities are doing.
Mayor Berry Vrbanovic says, “Our new neighbourhood strategy has great potential – it’s proactive and it’s aspirational about what our neighbourhoods can become. Creating a strong set of interconnected neighbourhoods becomes the glue that allows us to build a stronger community.”
