12:00 – ‘UnCanadian’ deportation

A Philippine native is fighting to stay in Canada – after becoming paralyzed in a road accident. Temporary foreign worker, Maria Venancio has been ordered out of Canada – something that an Alberta Tory backbencher calls ‘inhumane’ and ‘un-Canadian.’ Thomas Lukaszuk says more needs to be done to help her – she’s technically here illegally because if she can’t work, she must return to the Philippines. Maria was hit by a car in 2011 as she was biking to her job at an Edmonton McDonalds. Her lawyer, Chris Bataluk says she is entitled to some benefits from the employer and is looking for compensation and can’t get full health care because she doesn’t have an Alberta Health Care number. Bataluk says she’s from a rural area in the Philippines, where she wouldn’t get the same standard of treatment. He adds that getting around in a wheelchair or getting a job there would be difficult.
12:30 – ISIS – Hostages

ISIS is holding Christian hostages following raids in Northeastern Syria. 150 Assyrian Christians are in the hands of ISIS militants, who are reportedly going to release a video directed at Barack Obama and the US-led coalition, threatening to kill them. People were rounded up in a raid in Hassakeh province, which borders Turkey and Iraq. Militants broke into house after house…abducted women, children and the elderly – because many men were away elsewhere fighting ISIS. Hostages are now being interrogated under the threat of death.
