Waterloo Region and surrounding areas under extreme cold warning

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Waterloo Region, Cambridge, Guelph and Wellington County.
The weather service is calling for wind chill values of near -30 beginning this afternoon and into Friday morning. Officials say the cold warning will likely need to be extended as the cold air advances further.
The cold wind chill values also put people at a greater risk for frost bite and hypothermia. Officials say it’s important to wear clothing appropriate for the weather, dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer and wear warm socks, gloves, a hat and scarf.
570’s Weather Specialist John Wilson is forecast a low of -24 Thursday night, meaning we could set a record.
