I got to know Timea Nagy last summer, at an event hosted in Waterloo by the former Mayor, Brenda Halloran.
Fast forward to February 2015.
I’ve learned so much more about human and sex trafficking since that initial meeting.
Some fast facts: It’s happening right across Canada.. to Canadian girls, some as young as 13. Girls right here in Waterloo Region. Behind closed doors at local motels and hotels. Figures back in 2001 had up to 600 Canadian girls being trafficked in Canada for sexual exploitation. In 2014, that number soared to 30,000.
Timea knows about sex trafficking. She was brought to Canada for the wrong reasons. She escaped. She stayed to make a difference.

She’s been busy the past few years educating Canada.. and police officers, to try and stop this illegal trade of people.
Now she wants to put Waterloo on the map for making a difference..
She wants to open a community-based store here by the end of this year, and is looking for community corporate sponsors.
Timea says she is planning on a sustainable model that will support victim care and rehabilitation centers.
