10:00 AM – Snow Day!…Just Kidding, University of Waterloo

After more than 30 cm of snow fell on the region Monday night into Tuesday morning, almost everything was closed. Public libraries, elementary and high schools, Conestoga College – but not the University of Waterloo. The university stayed open yesterday adding on twitter “University of Waterloo faculty, staff and students are reminded that they are responsible for determining when weather conditions make travel unsafe.” Students took to twitter to let people know their displeasure with the school’s decision. One student even took to Buzzfeed writing an article called “10 Reasons the University of Waterloo thinks it should never close for a snow day.” Another student started a petition calling on the school to re-evaluate their inclement weather policies.
10:30 AM – Snow Event Parking

The City of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge all issued snow events. Yesterday we received a number of emails complaining about parking, specifically in the city of Kitchener. In one instance, a driver was unable to pay for a ticket to park in a lot downtown because the machine was broken. But she wasn’t able to park on the street either because of the snow event. Because she had to work, she later got a ticket on her car, payable to the city of Kitchener.
