10:00 – Red Light Cameras

A new red light camera in Kitchener – this one on Ottawa at the entrance to the Sunrise Centre – will snap vehicles heading east toward Fischer-Hallman. It’s a hefty fine if caught going through one of these…with a price tag of 325 dollars – there are currently 16 red light cameras in the Region. Public opinion is mixed…but research shows they make intersections safer…with drivers more aware and cautious – however have increased the number of collisions as drivers brake to avoid going through.
10:30 – Sex Ed – Consent

Premier Kathleen Wynne says Ontario’s updated sex Ed curriculum will start teaching kids how to read facial expressions and body language as early as Grade 1. Wynne says the first sex Ed curriculum update since 1999 will help teach kids the concept of consent and healthy relationships. Lia Valente was one of two Toronto Grade 8 girls who met with Wynne yesterday and says the updated sex Ed curriculum must teach kids that the lack of ‘No’ isn’t necessarily a ‘Yes.’ Their petition to have consent included garnered about 37-thousand signatures. The Liberal government backed off an attempt to update Ontario’s sex Ed curriculum recently after objections from some religious leaders.
