11:00 – Dalhousie University Student Scandal
Shannon Dea, Director of Women’s Studies, University of Waterloo
13 fourth year dentistry students at Dalhousie’s University went back to class yesterday. However – it wasn’t what they were used to. The students posted sexually explicit messages on a Gentleman’s Club Facebook page, and because of that, are now being taught separately from the rest of the class. On the Facebook page, one of the male students joked about which woman they’d like to have “hate sex” with. The University’s senate has met separately on the issue.
11:30 – Bells will be ringing…later
Manual Da Silva, Chair, Waterloo Catholic District School Board
The morning bell will continue to ring later at many of Waterloo Region’s schools. Trustees with the Catholic school board decided to stick with the later start times after discussing the issue at their meeting last night. According to reports, moving back to an earlier bell time at even four schools would have chewed up half of what the board is saving on busing costs. Over 50 schools, both Catholic and Public, have start times between 9 and 9:25. The changes took effect this past September. Some parents had argued against it citing concerns such as the disruption it causes to family schedules, plus increased child care costs.
