Local company Martin’s Family Fruit Farm has partnered with coffee giant Starbucks, who will now be offering their Crispy Apple Chips for sale.
Officials with Martin’s Family Fruit Farm say they were approached last fall by Starbucks after the company saw their apple chips at a trade show in the United States.
“They were looking at expanding their healthy offerings of snacks to their customers, and we happened to be producing our wonderful crispy apple chips and they had discovered our chips at a trade show” says Peter Katona, Marketing and Sales Manager at Martin’s Family Fruit Farm. “They thought it might be a great fit for their customers.”
“When I first found out about it, I was very excited. Our whole team was very excited” adds Katona. “Starbucks is obviously a well known company and they make a great brand ambassador for our product.”
The company planted it’s first 100 apple trees back in 1971 on their home property in Waterloo. Over the years they expanded the fresh apple packing business, and have been working with customers like Loblaw, Walmart and Costco. However, they have only been making the Crispy Apple Chips for customers since 2012 at their company in Elmira.
The company does offer cinnamon and chocolate flavoured apple chips, however only the original crispy apple chip will be offered at Starbucks locations.
