Hundreds turned out at the Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener for the annual German Remembrance Day.
Yesterday’s service was in remembrance of the German prisoners of war who died in Canada.
Crosses are there to mark the graves of 187 German prisoners of war from the First and Second World Wars.
Germany’s ambassador to Canada, Werner Wnendt was among those in attendance.
The Record reports, he told those gathered the ceremony is to honour all of those who have died in war.
He said, war is not history and it “is still a terrible reality in the daily life of many people.”
