Gas up those snow blowers and dust off those winter jackets, the days of warm weather are behind us and it’s full steam ahead for cold winter temperatures.
Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for areas north of Waterloo Region.
Dave Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada, tells 570’s Midday Show we are in for some accumulation over the next few days following a warmer than usual day Tuesday.
“We see just all day today, temperatures are going to drop…but there is going to be those flurries in the area and they are going to stay put.”
Phillps says there is a silver lining for those who are not looking forward to winter, predicting the cold will not linger around like last year.
“This year won’t be as long…we still don’t think that will be the flavour of the winter. We think normal to maybe even milder than normal.”
Last year was the coldest winter on record, and in Kitchener there were 25 days with temperatures below minus 26 degrees, normally we would only see six of those days during the winter months.
