Downtown Kitchener getting a big screen

For the first time since the Hyland Cinema closed in 1998, there will be a movie theatre in downtown Kitchener.
A five-year deal has been struck to put a theatre in at Ontario and Weber, the same site as the old Hyland.
The theatre will be located in the basement of an office building.
Three Toronto men are behind the move, one of them is Matt McKinnon, who is originally from Kitchener.
Christine Michaud with the Downtown Kitchener BIA tells 570News the new theatre will add to the revitalization of the downtown core.
“We already have fabulous restaurants and world-class chefs and to be able to offer theatre only enhances the already excellent downtown experience we have. Having a movie threatre in downtown also creates a community feel which is an important aspect for a vibrant downtown.”
