Local school children benefit from breakfast program

A compelling – and alarming statistic when it comes to child hunger in Waterloo Region.
14 school in Cambridge and 6 in Kitchener Waterloo will benefit from a new partnership that’s feeding hungry children.
Communications Officer with Egg Farmers Canada, Christine Anawati spoke to 570 News about the initiative.
“We signed on for a three year partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada to help provide more and more breakfasts to school aged children to schools across the country. We do know that 1 in 7 Canadian children go to school on an empty stomach; there is a big need for these programs.”
In total, there are 46 schools in the program in Southwestern Ontario – which feeds about 7-thousand students.
There are 1,328 Breakfast Clubs across Canada, feeding over 152,000 kids a day.
