Regional councillors voted Monday against expanding the Region of Waterloo International Airport and instead will try to do more with the current space.
Previously gathered public input favoured this approach.
Bearskin Airlines left the airport in April, the airport fell short of its business plan, neighbours complained regarding noise and many are upset over a $6-million taxpayer subsidy.
To remedy some of those issues, council decided to create a new position that would pitch the airport and its’ facilities to airlines and aviation investors.
Staff will report back in September with hiring options.
The region has spent $100 million to expand the airport since 2000 as an economic development engine, with mixed results.
