An explosion at a water pumping station on Greenbrook Drive in Kitchener could cost between $500,000 to $700,000 to repair. This according to a report released by the Region of Waterloo on Friday.
The explosion on April 2, 2014 was caused when ammonia was somehow mixed with chlorine. This caused extensive damage to the building including blowing off a section of the roof.
At this point, a temporary protocol has been put in place for supervision of all chemical deliveries. A further review and assessment has been recommended to determine the work that needs to be done – and that’s expected to take between eight to twelve months.
The costs will be discussed by the Planning and Works Committee on Tuesday, June 17th.
