Jones Feed Mill in Heidelberg and its owner are facing a $100,000 fine for safety violations that led to the death of an employee.
68-year-old Lindsay Whyte died in February last year after he fell and hit his head while using a pry bar to unplug a machine.
The company and owner Jeffrey Jones plead guilty to one count of failure to properly train employees.
This morning’s Record reports that Court took into consideration that the company has a previously clean record and took several steps to improve workplace safety after the incident.
This including buying new equipment and improving their existing machinery, as well as hiring a full-time health and safety coordinator.
Jones also reportedly gave $20,000 to Whyte’s widow.
