Ice storm and snow removal creates $1.4M cleaning bill in Kitchener

The snow may be long gone, but the cost of clearing it and cleaning up from the December ice storm will cost Kitchener an extra $1.4 million.

The Record says over the past five winters, the city has seen an average of 3.5 ‘snow events’, but the city recorded a total of six in the first three months of the year.

The snow removal portion of the budget is in the red by $600,000.

City staff are still working on the tally for the ice storm clean-up, the current estimate for that is $800,000.

Work continues on clearing parks and trails from debris left by the storm.
